Abstract

Abstract. This article compares five analytical models for determining the pressure of an air shock wave (Sadovsky, Kingery–Bulmash, Kinney–Graham, Newmark–Hansen, and Henrych) at operational distances during test range experiments and evaluates the convergence of the numerical solution in ANSYS LS-DYNA as the mesh refinement progresses from 50 to 2 mm. A finite element size of 5 mm was determined to be optimal, at which the relative error in reflected wave pressure is 4.9%. It was shown that at distances greater than 1.5–2 m, the shape of the charge has virtually no effect on the pressure acting on the structure, which allows for the use of technologically simpler cylindrical charges in tests.
