Abstract

It has been established that the thermal regime of an internal combustion engine (ICE), and thus its reliability and efficiency, is determined by the cooling device: the car radiator. The shortcomings of known methods for diagnosing the radiator of the ICE cooling system have been analyzed, including limitations of their technological capabilities and low productivity of research operations. When calculating the cooling device for a car, there are several calculation modes of movement. The least favorable is the mode of city traffic of a fully loaded car on a road slope at a speed of 20 km/h, which is limited by the traffic flow. This mode is usually used when calculating the cooling system. Known methods do not have the ability to study the cooling system of a car in this mode. Research on the "radiator-fan" block of the internal combustion engine cooling system has been carried out using a specially patented stand, which allows the experimental results to be used for the thermal constructive calculation of the radiator in order to evaluate its effectiveness under different ICE operating modes. The developed method of researching and calculating the cooling systems of internal combustion engines can be used to develop cooling systems for cars and tractors. The practical value of the proposed method for studying the parameters of the ICE cooling system is also that during prolonged operation of the radiator, deposits accumulate on its surfaces, which significantly impairs the heat transfer process. To determine the degree of contamination of the tubular-plate heat exchanger, the coefficient of efficiency β, proposed by Polish scientist Tadeusz Hobler, is suggested to be determined. The technical service of the car radiator, performed on the developed stand, makes it possible to evaluate the cooling efficiency of the internal combustion engine.
