ANALYSIS OF METHODS FOR EVALUATING THE QUALITY OF MIXING OF FEED MATERIALS

The article examines the features of evaluating the quality of mixing of feed materials as a complex multifactor process that determines the efficiency of feed preparation technologies and the stability of properties of multicomponent mixtures. It is shown that traditional approaches to evaluating homogeneity, primarily based on statistical indicators, do not fully account for the physical nature of the material medium and the mechanisms governing the mixing process, which complicates the interpretation of experimental results.
The aim of the study is to generalize and systematize methods for evaluating the quality of mixing of feed materials from the standpoint of their informative capabilities and limitations when used in experimental research. A systems approach is applied, according to which the evaluation process is considered as a sequence of interrelated stages, including sampling, determination of sample composition, quantitative representation of results, and statistical generalization.
A methodological interpretation of evaluation is proposed as a process of transforming the spatially distributed structure of a mixture into a system of generalized indicators, which makes it possible to establish the relationship between the method of obtaining primary information and the nature of the final results. It is substantiated that the main sources of error arise at the stages of sample formation and determination of their composition, which significantly affects the reliability of evaluation.
Methods for determining sample composition are systematized according to the principle of information acquisition, and mechanical, tracer, chemical, and visual-optical approaches are distinguished. It is shown that their application leads to the formation of different types of experimental data and, accordingly, enables the study of various aspects of the mixing process, including final homogeneity, process dynamics, and local structure of the mixture.
The obtained results can be used as a methodological basis for developing experimental research programs on feed mixing processes and for substantiating the selection of evaluation methods depending on material properties and experimental conditions.
